Angler Q & A

Technique strength: Sight fishing during the spawn, flipping and pitching in the post spawn

Technique weakness: Trying to find off-shore fish

Favorite lake or river: I love all Florida lakes for largemouth, and the Great Lakes for smallmouth.

Least favorite lake or river: Amistad! (jokingly)

Favorite bait: Soft plastics, Rage Craws and Lizards

Started bass fishing at the age of: 5

Started fishing bass tournaments at the age of: 16, but got real serious at 18

Year turned pro: 1984

Do you get nervous before tournaments: Not so much anymore, but the new Major League Fishing event format will probably make me nervous.

Your biggest bass fishing influence (person): Rick Clunn, Roland Martin and Kevin VanDam, because they are successful consistently.

If you were not a professional bass angler, what would you be doing: Probably in the pest control business.

Largest bass caught to date: 13-pound, 6-ounce largemouth during a PAA event.

Most memorable bass fishing moment: That’s difficult to answer. However, my last win at Harris Chain in 2011 was huge for me mentally. I went years without winning an event … that was a good moment.
