Technique strength: Versatility

Technique weakness: Deep Cranking

Favorite lake or river: Sam Rayburn, my home lake where I learned to fish.

Least favorite lake or river: Don’t really have one.

Favorite bait: Yamamoto Senko. I can go anywhere and catch fish on it.

Favorite fishing knot: Palomar Knot. It’s strong and simple on mono and braid, but I also like the Albright Knot that Aaron Martens ties for fluorocarbon.

Started bass fishing at the age of: 7 or 8

Started fishing bass tournaments at the age of: Started fishing club tournament on Rayburn at the age of 11

Year turned pro: 1996

Do you get nervous before tournaments: Yeah I do, but mostly about the decision process. We all really try to make the right ones, where you start after takeoff, that’s the most critical.

Largest bass caught to date: 11-pound, 8-ounce largemouth on Toledo Bend in 1996

Your most memorable bass fishing moment: My first Elite Series win at Table Rock in 2006

Your biggest bass fishing influence (person): My dad was always a role model, taught me how to fish and always brought me with him.

If you were not a professional bass angler, what would you be doing: I’d probably be a homebuilder like my dad.

What question do most people ask you the most: How do you get started?

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while fishing: I fell out of the boat two times in one day at a local tournament. I was beating around standing timber, and fell out when I hit trees with the boat. After the second time I felt like someone was telling me to go home, so I left.

As a boy, what did you want to be when you grew up: Always dreamed of fishing for a living.

What is the biggest obstacle you face as a professional angler: The financial aspect can be a tough thing, especially in the beginning.

How have state conservation programs and bass angler fish care affected bass fishing across the nation: As a whole, we’re more knowledgeable about what’s necessary to take care of fish. Texas PWD one of the leaders, stocking, catch-and-release, Share-a-Lunker program, all a lot better as a result.
