2012 Challenge Cup
Located on the Rio Grande 12 miles northwest of Del Rio, Texas, Amistad Reservoir boasts a surface area of almost 65,000 surface acres. Impounded in 1969, the lake reaches a maximum depth of 217 feed and is home to both largemouth and smallmouth bass.
Lake Amistad is dominated by rocky structure with rock ledges, steep drop offs, rocky points and shorelines. According to a survey in 1999, Lake Amistad has approximately 1,000 acres of aquatic vegetation, primarily hydrilla. When water levels increase, flooded terrestrial vegetation provides habitats important for fish.
During the fall, winter, and spring months, largemouth bass anglers can find the most success while using topwater baits, buzzbaits and spinner baits in the early morning and late evening.
