Jack Link's Major League Fishing
Filming on Chautauqua Lake

by Major League Fishing Communications

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. – Calling Chautauqua Lake and Chautauqua County, New York, a “tremendous destination with a great feel,” Jack Link’s Major League Fishing® Commissioner Don Rucks announced today that the organization is filming its second television series on the 13,000-acre Western New York lake. The Jack Link’s Major League Fishing Summit Cup began filming on Monday, August 27, and will wrap up on-site production Saturday, September 1.

The event’s production set is on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution, a campus and community that serve as a summer destination for more than 100,000 visitors. Among its offerings, historic Chautauqua Institution hosts a wide variety of classes, lectures, concerts and theatrical productions. Chautauqua County, as a whole, has been described as the “world’s learning center.”

“We could not be more pleased to announce that Major League Fishing is filming on Chautauqua Lake and at Chautauqua Institution,” Rucks said. “As part of our broadcasts, we will showcase the competition water and the local community. We’ve been extremely fortunate to have first-class partners in Chautauqua County and Chautauqua Institution.

“It has been enlightening for us to get familiar with the history and the culture that the county and Chautauqua Institution offer. We are confident we’re putting together an outstanding television show.”

Jack Link’s Major League Fishing is a partnership between Outdoor Channel and 24 of the world’s best anglers. The league features made-for-television bass fishing events designed to bring high-level challenges to participants and entertainment, as well as insight, to audiences. The league’s first event, filmed at Lake Amistad near Del Rio, Texas, and shown earlier this year, has received extraordinarily favorable reviews from viewers both within and outside the fishing industry.

Major League Fishing is scheduled to film two events this year. The first, the Summit Cup, will be televised beginning on January 1, 2013, on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV. The Summit Cup’s Championship Round will broadcast on NBC February 9.

Under the league’s innovative format, anglers are allowed to weigh all the score-able bass they catch. The bass are immediately weighed after they are caught, then released back into the water. In Major League Fishing competition, anglers know where they rank in the standings at all times via real-time leader boards in their boats. Anglers are not allowed to practice before events and were notified of the Summit Cup location two days before the start.

“We’re midway through the Summit Cup, and the competition has been tremendous. We have the top anglers in the world competing at a terrific venue. It’s a good formula that will allow us to offer some great television,” Rucks said.

“One of our goals in choosing Chautauqua County was to select a body of water and a community that our pro anglers are not familiar with. We have found that our competitors knew Chautauqua Lake by reputation and good recommendations, but only a handful of our anglers have ever spent time here.”
