Jack Link's Major League Fishing

Commissioner, competitors acknowledge tough fishing, impressive venue
by Major League Fishing Communications
CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. – Jack Link’s Major League Fishing® Commissioner Don Rucks announced today that the league has wrapped up “an absolutely tremendous second event.” The competition took place on New York’s Chautauqua Lake.
The Jack Link’s Major League Fishing Summit Cup, presented by General Tire, was filmed August 27 through September 1. The event will air on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV, beginning January 1, 2013. An extended coverage, web-based pay-per-view version – Extended Cast – will piggy-back the television broadcasts. The Summit Cup Championship Round will broadcast February 9 at 1 p.m. on the NBC Network.
“We had a fantastic tournament at a first-class venue. There were great fishing performances in real challenging conditions,” Rucks said. “Everyone involved in this production will really be looking forward to these television broadcasts. Expect surprises.”
The Summit Cup studio was housed on the grounds of Chautauqua Institution, a more than century-old campus on the shore of Chautauqua Lake. More than 100,000 visitors travel to the venue each summer to attend lectures, classes and concerts.
The Chautauqua Lake event again utilized the innovative format that allows anglers to compete with no limit on the number of legal fish they can weigh. Competitors were not allowed to begin competition with stored, user-generated GPS waypoints. The anglers also were equipped with real-time leader boards in their boats, which showed where they ranked in the standings at all times.
The Summit Cup competitors were informed of their Chautauqua Lake destination just two days before the event began.
“It was an outstanding event in a really welcoming environment. The fishing was tough, and I think that’s going to make some great television,” said Major League Fishing angler Boyd Duckett.
“What I particularly liked is that since we had an event under out belts, we were a little better prepared for the difficulty of the format,” Duckett said. “It didn’t make it any easier to fight the pressure that the clock and leaderboard presented, but we knew what we were in for so we were more prepared for the pressure.”
