TULSA, Okla. – For the second episode in a row, two anglers battle to the end of the final period to earn a spot in the Sudden Death Round of the 2013 General Tire Summit Cup, which will air in primetime Thursday, January 17, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on Outdoor Channel.

During Episode 2 of the Jack Link’s Major League Fishing event, anglers Aaron Martens and Takahiro Omori swapped fish almost until the end of the match, with Martens coming out on top. Episode 3 shows two more anglers taking up the fight.

“That’s getting to be a trend, not knowing the outcome until late in the final period,” said Major League Fishing Commissioner Don Rucks. “The feedback we’re getting is that fans enjoy seeing the emotion of the anglers and the drama. We’re happy that we have plenty to offer.”

Mark Davis, Boyd Duckett, Brent Ehrler, Alton Jones, Bobby Lane, Jason Quinn, Terry Scroggins and Byron Velvick comprise the field on this third and final Elimination day of the Summit Cup competition.

The anglers are competing to make the field of 12 in the Sudden Death Round. Four anglers from Day 3 will advance to face Denny Brauer, Edwin Evers, Shaw Grigsby, Greg Hackney, Mike Iaconelli, Jeff Kriet, Aaron Martens and Ish Monroe in the Sudden Death Round.

The Summit Cup was filmed on Chautauqua Lake in Western New York and tests the skills of the anglers as they compete on a designated, roughly 2,000-acre zone. The anglers were not aware that Chautauqua Lake would be the venue until three days before the event began. In accord with Major League Fishing rules, the anglers were not allowed to practice or receive advance information on the venue or fishing conditions.

The Summit Cup will air six times per week during the first quarter of 2013 on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV. The Championship Round also will air on February 9 at 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT on the NBC network. Subsequent to its airing on NBC, the championship round will re-air on Outdoor Channel the following week. Major League Fishing also offers EXTENDED CAST, a web-based, significantly expanded version of the Summit Cup television episodes. The Day 1 episode of EXTENDED CAST is being offered free of charge. Day 2 episode also is currently available. The Day 3 episode will become available on Friday, January 18.

The Summit Cup, held August 27 through September 2, 2012, includes 24 of the world’s best-known competitors and utilizes an innovative angler-created format. In addition to not being able to practice, the anglers are not allowed to practice before the event, cannot compete with pre-determined GPS waypoints, and are limited to fishing on designated sections of water disclosed to them less than 12 hours before their competition rounds began. Each day’s action serves as an elimination round.

The anglers’ boats are equipped with real-time leader boards. Boat judges accompany all anglers and administer penalties. After the weight of each catch is recorded, bass are released back into the lake.

The Summit Cup included six consecutive days of competition. The Elimination Round took place during the first three days, with eight anglers competing each day. The top four anglers from each day advanced to the Sudden Death Round. During Sudden Death, six anglers competed on the first day, the remaining six the next day. Three anglers advanced each competitive day of Sudden Death, setting up a Championship Final Round featuring the top six anglers.
